Email Hosting

Schnitz Technology offers email hosting designed specifically for Mac and iPad/iPhone users and fast mail delivery. Our mail server support IMAP IDLE, for connections from your Mac or PC. If you're already using our service, try sending yourself an email from your Mac: the email will appear in your inbox before you even hear the 'whoosh' than indicates Apple Mail has sent it. The iPad and iPhone don't support IDLE, so we use ActiveSync to deliver push mail to those devcices. New emails appear on your iPad or iPhone within 30 seconds after they reach our mail server.

Your actions are synchronized between devices: read an email on your Mac using IMAP and it gets marked as read on your iPad. Send an email from your iPhone, and it's shows up in the Sent folder on your Macintosh. Whether you're using IMAP on your Mac and PC or ActiveSync on your iPad, iPhone, or Android, your email stays synchronized.

Most customers prefer, and we typically recommend, having your own domain name (yourname.com, for example). It not only looks more professional, but it allows you complete control over your email address. You own your domain name and you have the ability to take it with you if you ever decide to switch to another service. Whatever email address you choose, you can keep forever.

Webmail is included with our service. The interface is sophisticated and clean. Webmail can import your Apple Address Book, so you'll have all your contacts with you, no matter what computer you're at. Like all our services, webmail is ad free. We also don't read your emails to gather personalized marketing data like a certain large search company does.

Our mail server is at an Equinix data center in Chicago. The center is secure and climate-controlled, with redundant UPS systems and generators, and staff on-site 24 hours. Our server has redundant network and power feeds and a redundant RAID10 array for data storage. We're not a reseller of services: we run our own mail server. If something goes wrong, the person you want to yell at is just a phone call away.

For customers not interested in their own domain name, we offer yourname@macgroups.net addresses. This service is $50 per year.
